Black Friday brings additional hazards when driving

On Behalf of | Nov 4, 2025 | Auto Accidents

There are two types of people — those who plan their Thanksgiving holidays around Black Friday sales and those who wouldn’t be caught dead out in the mix of thrifty shoppers.

If you are part of the former group, the following information about Thanksgiving holiday driving dangers might prove helpful to you this year.

Why Black Friday makes travel dangerous

There are many factors, but the top one is that it’s one of the biggest travel seasons of the year. It seems everyone is on the road to somewhere, whether it be across town or on the opposite coast.

Below are some additional factors that make this time of year more dangerous on our roads and highways:

  • The alcohol is flowing. Kids home from college head out to meet at the local watering hole, people serve aperitifs, wine with dinner, maybe some Irish coffee to wash down that piece of pie. Then they try to drive home.
  • Road rage incidents occur. In the quest to make it to the next sale on time, people cut off others, make rude gestures and worse. Someone brake-checking another driver can result in a chain of collisions.
  • People are unfamiliar with the area. If you only visit your in-laws for the holidays, construction zones and detours could lead you down roads you’ve never driven. It’s easy to get confused and make mistakes behind the wheel.

These are but a few of the dangers of which you should be aware this season. If you wind up getting into a holiday accident, learning more about your options to seek civil damages from the liable party is a good idea.
