Laura J. Margulies

Laura Margulies has been engaged in bankruptcy law since 1986 when she worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable James Schneider of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore Division. She received her J.D. from University of Baltimore School of Law in 1988, where she served as an editor on the Law Review. After graduation, she clerked for The Honorable Paul Albert on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. She then worked as an associate in the bankruptcy departments of Semmes, Bowen & Semmes in Baltimore, Maryland and Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge in Washington, D.C. In 1993, she started her own practice in Rockville, Maryland and also began teaching bankruptcy law at University of Maryland University College. She opened a second office in Greenbelt, Maryland in 1998. She served as chairman of the Greenbelt Division of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland and has published several articles on bankruptcy law in various legal and financial publications. Ms. Margulies is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy topics and is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the American Bankruptcy Institute, National Association of Consumer Advocates and the Maryland State Bar Association, Consumer Bankruptcy Section, where she serves on its executive committee.

The bankruptcy practice of Laura Margulies & Associates, LLC encompasses the representation of both creditors and debtors in bankruptcy proceedings, foreclosures and debt restructurings in Maryland and District of Columbia.
